TIMES SQUARE, NY (WABC) -- There was a tribute on Broadway Friday for Tony award winning director and producer Mike Nichols.

Broadway theaters dimmed their marquees tonight for the nine time Tony award winner.

His stage work included productions of "Monty Python's Spamalot" and "Arthur Miller's Death of a Salesman."

Besides his theater work Nichols has the rare distinction of winning an award in all four major entertainment categories, an Oscar, a Tony, a Grammy and an Emmy.

Nichols was married to ABC news anchor Diane Sawyer for 26 years.

He died Wednesday at the age of 83.
