Beachgoers flock to Jersey Shore for unofficial end of summer
Toni Yates has more from Belmar.

BELMAR, N.J. (WABC) -- We didn't have that many 90 degree days this summer, so for many there is no better place to celebrate the unofficial end of summer than the beach.

"I am so unhappy ... last day of summer, you gotta enjoy it," Stephanie Quinonez, a Harrison resident.

That was pretty much the order of the day at Belmar, as thousands kept their hopes the sun would show up for the so long to summer. Early clouds were welcome cover from the hot sun for some.

People were trying to hang out on the sand as long as the weather holds out. Rain is expected later this evening. "But the weather is still good in September, another couple of weeks," said Peter Sucato, a Weehawken resident.

Not everyone is sad to see fall arrive. "I do catch up on fantasy football draft tonight. As long as there is football," said Ray Connery, a Westfield resident.

Beachgoers said the water felt nice and the clouds eventually dissipated allowing for the sun to peek through.
