New Jersey couple gets engaged during eclipse
Toni Yates has the latest on the eclipse beach proposal.

MANASQUAN, New Jersey (WABC) -- The solar eclipse was an incredibly memorable event, but one man in New Jersey decided to make it even more memorable by proposing during the event.

Down on Manasquan Beach, Adam Goetz and Dana Russo had their eclipse glasses on, just like millions of us, but this celestial event, has its symbols.

"It had the engagement ring effect so I thought, what better way to make it our special day," Goetz said.

Adam's beautiful, vivacious girlfriend Dana was all into the eclipse until it wasn't just about the eclipse anymore.

"Well I had those glasses on felt something touch my leg," Dana said. "I looked down and saw the ring. I was so surprised."

Dana's brother Drew was close enough to catch it all on his phone.

"I saw him getting up and pulled out the phone, thought it would be a great memory for them," Drew said.

"What's so special about this guy?" Eyewitness News asked.

"The best, Midwest gentleman, great person," Dana said.

"Did he ask you first?" Eyewitness News asked.

"Yes, he'll be a great addition to the family," her father said.

"What's special about her?" Eyewitness News asked.

"Great person. She makes me better. I can't ask for a better girl" Goetz said.

"Oh we just love him. He's a great guy," said Cindy Russo, Dana's mother.

There were lots of people who saw this on the beach. We found two of them.

"We were excited for them," a beachgoer said. "She was going around showing everybody her ring."

Leave it to Mother Nature to provide the perfect backdrop on earth and in outer space, all for love.
