Library in Jersey City features a 'tiebrary' for job seekers

JERSEY CITY, New Jersey (WABC) -- Going out for a job interview can be stressful and now a library in Jersey City has come up with a way to lend a helping hand.

Each one of the colorful ties may soon play a role in someone's new beginning.

The "Tiebrary" is a new upcoming feature at the Miller Branch Library in Jersey City. Just like you borrow books, you borrow a high quality tie for that job interview.

"They will need a library card, you can check out two ties at a time for three days. Ties empower you, it sets a tone different from regular clothing, hopefully you land a job," said Jason Sanders, a librarian.

Sanders got the idea from similar programs in other cities. He donated lots of his own high-end, silk ties. Their purpose now, means more to him than keeping them.

"My grandfather told me to give back to the community to the best of your ability," Sanders said.

You must have a Jersey City library card. They'll run down the dos and don'ts like late fees and keeping the ties clean, when you check them out.

This tiebrary at the Miller Branch is the pilot program. If it takes off, they're going to need a whole lot more ties so they can open tiebraries at other branches. The libraries are a go-to resource for job seekers.

"We have a career center and having the tiebrary so they can be well dressed for the interview is a perfect match," said Michele Dupey, an Information Officer for the Jersey City Free Library.

"That's positive. To give inspiration, motivation to go out and look for work," said Gary Span, a Jersey City resident.

Sanders says once the ties are all barcoded, and a few other details are worked out, the tiebrary should be open in a couple of weeks.
