New York City makeup bars give customers professional looks for all occasions
NEW YORK (WABC) -- It's all about feeling and looking beautiful at New York City makeup bars: where customers can walk in, sit down and have a professional artist bring out their inner best. Whether they have a job interview, a date or an audition, these artists are trained to go as natural or as glam as they want.
"We're known for natural and sexy makeup," said Stephanie Maron, founder and CEO of Blushington Makeup and Beauty Lounge. "So we always try to find that woman's inner beauty, and find their 'pretty.'"
"I think it's so cool because I'm terrible at doing makeup, I really am," 16-year-old Emma Flanders said. "So it's nice to have this here, so I can come anytime I want and look awesome."
Shante Price was all ready for her date and was thrilled her artist knew exactly how to work with her skin tone.
"She used three different shades to make my shade match," Price said. "I think she did an amazing job."
As a special gift to all their New York customers, Blushington is now offering five days of free makeup services. From the lounge's opening day - Wednesday, July 29 - until Sunday, New Yorkers can get that million dollar look for free.
On the East Side, MAC cosmetics just opened its first make up studio. The focus is not to push products, but to help customers put their best face forward.
"I can't believe I look like this," MAC customer Anita Antoinette said. "This is awesome."
"I have a dinner tonight," customer Katie Fuhrman said. "I'm just going to leave this on throughout the whole day."
Eyewitness News reporter Lucy Yang braved the camera without makeup to show how customers can get a new look at MAC's studio. Makeup artist Joel did her eyes, not too much color on the lips, light on the cheeks, and voila: camera ready.
"You leave looking like you, but a better you," said Romero Jennings, director of makeup artistry at MAC.
These makeup bars are affordable and accessible. MAC starts at $10 for a 10 minute session.
