Fire in Cypress Hills building spills smoke onto street

CYPRESS HILLS, Brooklyn (WABC) -- Three people were injured in a Brooklyn fire that smothered a building in smoke Saturday morning.

The five-alarm fire started around 10 a.m. in a three-story mixed-use building on Atlantic Avenue, between New Jersey Avenue and Vermont Street, in Cypress Hills.

It quickly spread to connected buildings.

Video from Citizen App showed crews on the scene tackling the fire in the three-story building as smoke billowed out onto the street.

Nearly 200 firefighters descended on the scene and worked to get the fire under control.

One civilian and two firefighters suffered minor injuries.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
