BAYONNE, NJ (WABC) -- A second-alarm fire at a house in Bayonne Wednesday morning claimed the lives of multiple animals.
Four dogs are confirmed dead and another dog and a cat are missing from the home on West 21st Street.
The fire started in the basement just before 5 a.m. and quickly spread through the rest of the house.
The two residents were able to get out of the house, but the animals were trapped.
Additionally, there was a turtle in the first-floor kitchen sink that survived.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
