First Responder Friday: Wayne Police Officer Schoonmaker

WAYNE, New Jersey (WABC) -- This week's First Responder Friday honors Wayne Police Officer Schoonmaker.

Officer Schoonmaker saved the day for a motorist who ran out of gas. The motorist was part of an organization that also "saves the day" by helping those in need.

John was driving the "Guardian of the Ribbon" vehicle of the charitable organization PINK Heals. It's the Passaic County local chapter of the national charity PINK Heals which was actually started by a retired firefighter and former pro-athlete who wanted to continue to help others.

Pink Heals has 150 trucks in three countries and helps those in need worldwide. The national "Cares Enough to Wear Pink" days are October 25th, 26th, and 27th. We would like to have every community adopt the resolution and wear pink on these days to show the women in the community they have the love and support of everyone around them.

Whether it's helping out, celebrating a milestone of service, or a first responder in need -- we want to hear about it!
