NEW YORK (WABC) -- Cravings for a sweet treat can strike any time of the day.

Now, you can satisfy the urge 24-7 with a new, walk-up machine that dispenses gourmet cupcakes kind of like ATMs dispense money.

Swipe your card, work the screen, and out comes not cash at this ATM but a cupcake.

For those times you desperately need a cupcake this cupcake ATM is brought to you by Sprinkles, a cupcake bakery that started in Los Angeles.

They've got one of these ATMs there and in Dallas, and now New York at Lexington and 61st Street.

You can get up to four at a time. The flavors are the same as those sold in the shop right next door.

The machine is restocked several times a day with almost 800 cupcakes.

The machine is an instant attraction.

One woman even facetimed the experience with a friend in Italy.

The cupcakes are $4.25 each. The machine only takes credit cards and a camera shows the machine's arm maneuvering behind the scenes.

Because people need cupcakes every day, just be sure to grab quickly to avoid a cupcake casualty.

There are plans to open additional cupcake ATMs throughout the city.

By the way, the ATM price for a cupcake is 50 cents more than if you were to buy it at the store. You're paying for convenience.

There are also gluten free and vegan options, even ones for your pooch.
