BUSHWICK (WABC) -- A woman suffering from Multiple Sclerosis and who uses a walker was struck and killed by a garbage truck in Brooklyn late Thursday.

Alberta Bagu was crossing the street at Broadway and Ditmars Street in Bushwick when she was hit, and the driver kept going. She was just a block from her home.

Surveillance video captured the last seconds of her life, as she made her way across the street about 10:30 p.m. The garbage truck simply plowed over her before continuing down the street.

"She was a beautiful person," husband Edmond Peters said. "Laughter, and she's always joking with everybody."

Bagu's heartbroken family is still coming to grips with the sudden and violent loss.

"It's racing through our minds, like, what are we going to do now without her?" sister Lenette Flood said. "You know it's like a puzzle. You can have 1,000h pieces, but if you're missing that one piece, you have no complete puzzle. It's incomplete."

Police have not made any arrests in the case, but the surveillance video is clear and there are several other cameras on the street. So it likely won't take long to find the driver who shattered this family.

"The cop said your wife has a blue walker?" Peters said. "And I said that was it, my heart broken to pieces."

Bagu was just 46 years old, a loving mother of two.

Detectives have talked to the driver of a private sanitation truck who was in the area at the general time of the crash.

The driver passed a sobriety test and does not remember striking a victim.

The NYPD is still investigating his story, as they try to determine whether he was the driver involved.
