Woman fatally struck by gasoline truck on East Side
EAST SIDE, Manhattan (WABC) -- A 27-year-old woman was fatally struck by a gasoline delivery truck in Manhattan Friday morning, and the driver is now facing charges.
It happened around 6 a.m. at East 37th Street and Third Avenue.
The victim, identified as Sarah Foster, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The investigation determined that she was attempting to cross 37th Street traveling northbound when she was struck by the delivery truck, which was traveling northbound on Third Avenue and attempting to make a turn to travel westbound on 37th Street.
The operator of the vehicle, 51-year-old Steven McDermott, remained at the scene.
He was arrested and charged with failure to yield to a pedestrian and failure to exercise due care.
The investigation remains ongoing.
