Grandfather accused of leaving 5-year-old alone with loaded gun in Arizona desert

A grandfather is accused of leaving his 5-year-old granddaughter alone with a loaded gun in the desert.

Police in Arizona arrested 62-year-old Paul Rater.

He took the girl for a ride in his pick-up truck on Sunday.

Police say hours later, the girl's family reported her missing.

Authorities found the girl alone in the desert with a loaded 45-caliber handgun.

She said her grandfather told her to use the gun to shoot the bad guys.

Police found her grandfather at a local bar.

He is now facing counts of child abuse and other charges.
