HEMPSTEAD (WABC) -- The funeral for a 12-year-old girl who was shot to death a week ago on Long Island was held Friday.
Friends and family said goodbye to Dejah Joyner at 10 a.m. at Union Baptist Church in Hempstead.
Dejah was in the living room of her family's home on Dartmouth Street in Hempstead when a stray bullet pierced the front window in the early evening of Oct. 16 and struck her in the head, killing her.
She was shot in the head on Friday by a stray bullet that pierced a front window of her home.
No one has been arrested for Dejah's death. Sources told Eyewitness News that police are looking at surveillance video that shows someone getting out of a car and firing a shot that missed its intended target.
Acting Police Commissioner Thomas Krumpter said Monday that detectives had received a "significant number" of tips and have already spent thousands of hours investigating the girl's death.
Nassau County's police commissioner said catching the culprit responsible for the shooting is the department's top priority.
