Woman critically injured in hit and run accident near Midtown Tunnel

MIDTOWN, Manhattan (WABC) -- A woman is in critical condition after police say she was struck Sunday morning in a hit and run accident near the Queens Midtown Tunnel.

At about 10:53 a.m., the woman in her 50s was struck by a black SUV on the East 38th Street approach to the tunnel, according to the NYPD.

She was dragged one block to East 37th Street where she became dislodged from the vehicle.

The SUV was travelling east on East 38th Street. The driver fled the scene, police said.

The victim was transported to Bellevue Hospital where she is in critical condition.
