Arrest made in Hoboken hit-and-run of top NBA Draft pick's cousin

HOBOKEN, New Jersey -- Police have made an arrest in the New Jersey hit-and-run that killed the cousin of Ben Simmons, the No. 1 pick in this year's NBA draft.

Authorities say 50-year-old Mark Nicholas, a Jamaican-born US citizen who lives in Brooklyn, was taken into custody around 3 a.m. Friday.

Police believe he was behind the wheel of the car that struck 21-year-old Zachary Simmons while he was crossing a street in Hoboken on June 25.

The vehicle fled the scene.

Ben Simmons played one season for Louisiana State University before being selected by the Philadelphia 76ers in the draft. The victim's mother said her son had gone with Ben Simmons to the NBA draft the week he was killed.

After the fatal crash, Ben Simmons wrote in a Twitter post: "Hearing the news this morning is a reminder to never forget the important things in life."
