NEW YORK -- GrowNYC is a nonprofit organization that offers interactive environmental activities through which people can improve New York City. Volunteer opportunities include:

-Greenmarket, a farmers market that sells produce grown on local family farms. There are over 50 Greenmarkets in the five boroughs. In addition to volunteering, you can also drop off clothing, textiles, and food scraps.

-Recycling events, such as hazardous waste and electronics collections. GrowNYC also helps with recycling at public events throughout the city.

-Stop 'N' Swap events. Stop 'N' Swaps collect clean, reusable items including clothing, books, toys, and housewares. People are also allowed to take items for free.
