Hundreds come down with stomach flu aboard Royal Caribbean cruise

NEW YORK (WABC) -- Hundreds of people became ill while on a cruise to Jamaica.

Royal Caribbean's "Independence of the Seas" left South Florida Monday but by day three, about 220 people came down with the stomach flu.

That's almost five percent of the more than 5,000 guests and crew on board.

Those affected were treated by the ship's doctors.

The cruise line says it's now working to deep clean the ship before it can set sail again.
