Dashcam video shows thief on bike swipe iPhone from woman's hand in East Village

EAST VILLAGE, N.Y. (WABC) -- A man on a CitiBike tried to help a woman who had her iPhone ripped out of her hands in the East Village Wednesday.

The incident happened at about 5:30 p.m. at the intersection of East 7th Street and Avenue C. The video posted on YouTube by @inthepixels shows a woman crossing the street with a man on a bike racing by and grabbing the phone out of her hands.

The victim and another man, who appeared to be wearing dress clothes and riding a CitiBike, chased after the thief for a couple blocks. The video does not show if the iPhone was recovered or how the situation ended.

The New York City Police Department urges people to pay attention while using their cellphones, as this happens from time to time.
