Police say mother recants child beating story
Darla Miles reports on a Bronx mother who police say recanted her story of her child being beaten with a baseball bat.

BRONX, N.Y. (WABC) -- Police say the woman who claimed her 2-month-old infant was struck by a baseball bat during a robbery attempt in the Bronx has recanted her story, admitting that she dropped the child in her apartment.



The woman reportedly has a prior ACS case, and while it was unfounded, she did not want another inquiry. She has been charged with filing a false police report.



Previously, authorities had believed the was hurt while being held by his father on Noble Avenue just after midnight in the Soundview section. The woman had apparently claimed the child was struck in the head with a bat while being carrying by his father in a child harness.



She had said the couple and their two children were approached while they were walking to Rite Aid to get money from the ATM, and that two young males wearing hoodies got out of a Toyota Corolla and attacked them.



The infant suffered a severe brain injury and was in critical condition at Jacobi Hospital.
