Long Island man charged with DWI with 1-month old son in back seat

OCEANSIDE (WABC) -- A Long Island man is charged with driving while intoxicated and crashing with his one-month old son in the back seat.

According to police, Andres Collado, 27, of Oceanside, was driving a 2004 Nissan Sentra at about 10:45 Saturday night when he rear ended a 2008 Jeep that was attempting to make a left turn on Long Beach Road in Oceanside.

When police arrived, they say Collado had glassy red blood shot eyes, blurred speech and a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage on his breath.

Officers also discovered his infant son was secured in the back seat. Collado was arrested and the baby was released to the mother, who was at the scene.

Police say they also determined that Collado had three open Nassau County warrants for Criminal Contempt 1st Degree, Harassment and Violation of Probation.

Collado is being charged with Aggravated Driving While Intoxicated (Leandra's Law), Aggravated Unlicensed Operator, Endangering the Welfare of a Child and Driving While Intoxicated.
