WEEHAWKEN, New Jersey (WABC) -- The south tube of the Lincoln Tunnel to New York has reopened following a wild police chase.

Just after 8 p.m. Friday, the New Jersey State Police initiated a chase into the south tube, temporarily shutting it down to traffic.

Police say they tried to stop a Mercury Villager minivan on the New Jersey Turnpike Eastern Spur in Newark for a traffic violation. The driver refused to stop, and police continued to follow.

Several arrests were made on the New York side of the tunnel. Charges are currently pending.
