EAST NEW YORK (WABC) -- An armed robber in Brooklyn got more than he bargained for when a store clerk pulled out a machete.
Surveillance cameras recorded the suspect going behind the counter of the convenience store in East New York at about 5:30 Friday afternoon.
Police say the man took $700 in cash and cartons of cigarettes. The clerk then grabbed a machete and ran out the door, trapping the robber inside.
When the clerk was bracing against the door, the suspect fired his gun, shattering the glass, and shooting a security guard across the street.
The injured guard was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
Police are still searching for the suspect.
