Man tackled in Midtown charged in mugging of Arizona tourist

NEW YORK (WABC) -- A man suspected in a mugging in Midtown that was captured on video has been arrested.

The man, identified as 37-year-old Theodore Shearin, is accused of taking a woman's purse in Midtown, only to be foiled by five Good Samaritans who chased and tackled the suspect.

He escaped, but was later taken into custody a block away near Eighth Avenue and West 36th Street.

Police say he was found to be in possession of PCP when he was taken into custody.

Shearin is charged with robbery, criminal possession of stolen property and drug possession.

The victim is a tourist visiting from Arizona.
