Funeral for Long Branch family members killed on New Year's Eve
A funeral will be held Monday for three of the family members shot and killed in Long Branch, NJ.

LONG BRANCH, New Jersey (WABC) -- Hundreds of mourners gathered Monday to remember the victims of a devastating New Year's Eve shooting in New Jersey that left three members of the same family and a family friend dead.

Monday's funeral for Steven and Linda Kologi and their 18-year-old daughter, Brittany, was held at St. Jerome Roman Catholic Church in West Long Branch. It came two days after mourners had gathered there to remember the fourth victim, 70-year-old Mary Schulz.

Monmouth County prosecutors say the Kologis' 16-year-old son shot the victims at close range with a semi-automatic rifle in their Long Branch home.

Schulz was the longtime partner of Steven Kologi's father, who also was in the house but escaped unharmed with two other people.

Authorities said they still don't know why the shootings happened, even as it emerged the family was facing financial hardship.

"At this point, we don't have a motive," Monmouth County prosecutor Chris Gramiccioni said.

The suspect's name has not been released because of his age, but authorities may seek to move the case to adult court.
