Every Sunday morning over 36,000 households tune in to "New York Viewpoint," "New Jersey Viewpoint," and "Long Island Viewpoint." The programs highlight the community and cultural efforts that enrich the quality of life in our neighborhoods.
These weekly round-table discussions are hosted by Eyewitness News anchor Ken Rosato. Viewpoint airs at 5:30am on Sunday morning.
This week on New Jersey Viewpoint: February 26, 2017
Today we bring you Connections, a new program that provides one-on-one, long term mentoring to boys aged 15 to 25 helping them transition into independent living. We also have a Morristown resident who has authored a new book that deals with the issues involved in raising a transgender child.
But first, over the past few decades, there's been a dramatic increase in peanut allergies. It's estimated that up to 3% of infants and young children in the US are affected. Finally there are new updated guidelines on preventing peanut allergies & the wait is over for parents who want to know, how and when to introduce peanut-containing foods to their infants.
Please join me in welcoming Dr. Anna Nowak-Wegrzyn, a Pediatrician and Researcher, at Mount Sinai's Jaffe Food Allergy Institute.

Today we bring you the story of a young mother and son who went through their cancer battle together and she's written a book all about it. We also have with us an educational initiative called Kids CoLab that is innovative and fascinating.
But first, did you know that every 3 minutes someone is diagnosed with a blood cancer. 70% of patients don't have a match in their family, so they depend on "Be The Match" which is operated by the National Marrow Donor Program. A marrow or cord blood transplant can be a life-saving treatment for more than 70 different diseases, including leukemia, lymphoma and sickle cell disease.
Joining us today from Be the Match is Jiro Okochi, who is the Board Chair, and a donor but more importantly, father of Finn Okochi, who received his bone marrow transplant a few years ago.

The Hispanic Heritage Foundation just honored 21 Hispanic high school students in our area for numerous achievements, but perhaps most importantly: their leadership in the classroom and community.
The award recipients will receive grants for their education. We'll talk to two of these young leaders in a few minutes.
But first, the proposal to offer driver's licenses for undocumented immigrants in New Jersey is moving forward. The state assembly's homeland security committee voted 3-2 along party lines to approve the measure last week.
Hundreds of supporters marched to the New Jersey statehouse in hopes the proposed the legislation will soon become the law.
Advocates say the measure promotes safety by encouraging people to purchase auto insurance. They claim it will contribute to the state's economy, but there is strong opposition as well.
Governor Chris Christie has vowed to veto this bill. To talk further about the proposed legislation is New Jersey Assemblywoman Annette Quijano and Udi Ofer, executive director ACLU of New Jersey.
