NEW ROCHELLE (WABC) -- A child was rushed to the hospital after falling three stories out a window in New Rochelle Wednesday morning.
The incident happened around 9:45 a.m. on May Street, with the 3-year-old boy falling from a second-story window 20 to 30 feet down into an alley at basement level.
David Bryant was the man who discovered the boy right after he fell.
"I'm walking and I heard a loud thump," he said. "I put my hand on him to see if he was alright, and blood started coming from his mouth."
The father of the boy was in the apartment at the time, apparently in another part of the apartment when the child fell. He heard the boy's screams and immediately ran to his side.
The boy was reportedly conscious but bleeding while being placed in the ambulance, and his injuries are not believed to be life threatening.
He was first taken to Montefiore Hospital before being transferred to Westchester Medical Center.
Neighbors who know the family say the father is the super of the building and that this is no more than a terrible accident.
Police say there were no window guards, which is a building code violation. The law states that in a multiple-unit dwelling where children aged 10 and younger are present, all windows are required to have window guards.
The investigation is ongoing, and officials say they have yet to decide if there will be any charges filed.
