NYPD: 4-year-old girl sexually assaulted; Suspect climbed through window
N.J. Burkett reports from Queens Village.

QUEENS VILLAGE, Queens (WABC) -- Police are searching for a suspect after a 4-year-old girl was sexually assaulted in Queens early Sunday.

"I said, 'so they're still here so something must have happened,'" a neighbor said.

The NYPD had been at the Queens Village building since Sunday. They have been keeping watch over the two-story Tudor homes on Francis Lewis Boulevard where investigators say a 4-year-old girl was sexually-assaulted, apparently by an intruder.

"Investigation has indicated that the suspect(s) may have utilized a ladder to access a window of the second floor apartment where the assault occurred," said NYPD Detectives in a statement.

The suspect escaped, and police say they cannot rule out the possibility that this was a random crime.

Detectives say it happened at 10:45 a.m. on Sunday in a neighborhood where there are bars on many of the doors and windows, but serious crime is uncommon.

The investigation is ongoing, and anyone with information is urged call CrimeStoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS.
