HAWAII (WABC) -- Former New York Mets star shortstop Jose Reyes was arrested and charged with domestic abuse late last month, police in Hawaii said Tuesday.

The Maui County Police Department released a report stating that the 32-year-old Reyes, of Old Brookville, was taken into custody around 2:30 p.m. on October 31 after an argument with his wife Katherine turned physical in the couple's hotel room at the Four Seasons Resort Maui at Waileaon.

Hawaii News Now reported that Reyes, now with the Colorado Rockies, grabbed his wife by the throat and threw her into a sliding glass door.

The paper reported his wife suffered injuries to her thigh, neck and wrist, and police confirm she was transported to Maui Memorial Medical Center for treatment.

Reyes, who was issued a warning citation to not have contact with his wife for three days, is free on $1,000 bail.

The Rockies issued a statement late Monday saying the team was "extremely disappointed and concerned to learn of the allegations involving Jose Reyes." The league issued a statement Tuesday that says it is looking into "the facts and circumstances."
