10 arrested at Long Island sobriety checkpoint in Huntington Station

HUNTINGTON STATION (WABC) -- Ten people were arrested overnight at a sobriety checkpoint in Huntington Station, including one person with a 7-month-old in his vehicle.

The Suffolk County Police Highway Patrol Bureau set up a sobriety checkpoint on Route 110 at Church Street in Huntington Station between 11 p.m. Friday and 3 a.m. Saturday.

Police said the checkpoint was a prelude to the upcoming Labor Day Holiday weekend. A total of 625 vehicles went through the checkpoint.

One of those arrested, Marvin Whitfield, 36, of Huntington, was charged under Leandra's Law with felony aggravated driving while intoxicated and endangering the welfare of a child after being stopped with a 7-month-old girl in his vehicle.

Whitfield was scheduled for arraignment Saturday in Central Islip.
