WEST PALM BEACH, Fl. -- A dog miraculously survived an 11-story plunge from a balcony in Florida, with just a minor injury.

The 12-year old Pekingese named Bonzo landed in the grass outside a condo building in West Palm Beach, suffering only a fractured rib.

His owner, Kimberly Bellinger, was visiting from New York City and staying at her mother's condo.

Somehow Bonzo, who has arthritis and a bad hip, squeezed through the balcony's railing.

Bellinger was hysterical and assumed Bonzo didn't survive.

"I couldn't even breath," Bellinger said. "We ran down there, flew down the elevator, ran outside, and he was breathing."

Bellinger said the veterinarian at Palm Beach Veterinary Specialists told her the height of the fall may have actually helped, because Bonzo was disoriented, limber and not bracing for impact.

Bellinger said it's been a tough month. Her other dog died and her father passed away unexpectedly.

While the veterinarian calls Bonzo's survival a miracle, Bellinger calls it a gift.

"I don't know if I could take it," Bellinger said. "I'm so grateful."
