Coast Guard suspends search for missing construction worker in water near Bayonne

BAYONNE (WABC) -- The Coast Guard says it has suspended its active search for a 55-year-old construction worker who fell off a barge in Bayonne Friday.

The search was suspended at about 12:30 a.m., Saturday, after Coast Guard and other local agencies continuously searched for more than four hours covering the Kill Van Kull area.

Divers searched after the man fell off a barge near the International Matex Tank Terminals at about 8 p.m.

The Bayonne Police have assumed lead for the case.

Agencies involved in searching included:

- A 45-foot Response Boat-Medium rescue crew from Coast Guard Station New York

- New York Police Department Aviation Division

- New York Police Department Harbor Division

- Bayonne Fire Department

- New Jersey State Police

- Multiple divers from various agencies
