11 injured in 2-alarm Kingsbridge fire

KINGSBRIDGE (WABC) -- Firefighters say a blaze that tore through parts of a Bronx apartment building Friday has critically injured two people, and three others are in serious condition.

The New York City Fire Department responded to 3971 Gouverneur Ave., just before 5 p.m. after a 2-alarm fire broke out inside the Kingsbridge building.

It took 106 firefighters, 25 units, about 90 minutes to get the blaze under control. An American Red Cross representative said the fire damaged several of the building's 67 apartments. Red Cross is currently providing temporary housing.

Eleven people were hurt, two critically, three are in serious condition, but with non-life threatening injuries. Six have minor injuries. All of the injured people were taken to Jacobi Hospital.

Firefighters said the blaze was on the fifth and sixth floors of the six-story building.

There's no word yet on the cause of the fire.
