INWOOD, N.Y. (WABC) -- Two people died in a car wreck on Long Island overnight.

According to the Nassau County Police Department, around 4:15 a.m. Saturday, a BMW was traveling south on Sheridan Avenue in Inwood when it collided with a private sanitation truck traveling west on Bayview. The two vehicles burst into flames.

The driver of the garbage truck was badly burned when he unsuccessfully attempted to pull the victims from the burning vehicle.
