EAST FLATBUSH, Brooklyn (WABC) -- One man is in custody and another is on the run after an exchange of gunfire with two police officers in East New York, Brooklyn.

The officers, who were not injured in the incident, were responding to shots fired in Railroad Playground, a park on East 92nd Street in East Flatbush, around 5:30 p.m. Tuesday.

They had gotten out of their vehicle when, they said, the gunman turned to the officers.

The officers fired four shots at the suspects, who fled on foot, according to the New York City Police Department.

A 24-year-old man was taken into custody.

Another man, described as wearing a red bubble jacket, ran from the park into a house across the street on East 92nd Street.

A large number of police responded to search for the suspect and for the gun, which was not recovered.

It was not clear if the second man was shot, but police conducted a citywide canvas of hospitals for a person with a gunshot wound.

Both officers, who were not injured, were taken to Methodist Hospital for treatment of tinnitus.
