Man accused in New Haven mosque shooting to be held another week

NEW HAVEN, Connecticut -- A man accused of firing shots at a mosque in Meriden has been ordered to remain in federal custody at least another week.

Ted A. Hakey Jr. appeared Monday in U.S. District Court in New Haven. Prosecutors argued he is a danger and should be held without bond until the case is resolved.

The case was continued until a hearing on Dec. 28. Hakey's defense attorney did not present an argument and said he would respond to the government's statements at the next hearing.

Hakey is facing hate-crime charges related to the Nov. 14 firing of four shots at the Baitul Aman Mosque next door to his home shortly after the terrorist attacks in Paris. Nobody was injured in the shooting.

The 48-year-old Hakey was arrested Thursday.
