FLATBUSH, Brooklyn (WABC) -- Police say a woman was punched in the face in an apparent random attack in Brooklyn Wednesday afternoon, and authorities were searching for a man they believe to be homeless.

The incident happened at 12:40 p.m. On Hillel Place, just off Flatbush Avenue, in Flatbush.

Authorities say the woman was walking on the sidewalk when the suspect approached her, punched her in the face and fled the scene toward the intersection of Flatbush and Nostrand avenues.

Responding officers searched the area but didn't find the man. The suspect was described as a black male in his 40s wearing a green or brown jacket and green pants.

The victim was taken to New York Community Hospital in Brooklyn. Witnesses say she had some bruising on her face but didn't look seriously injured.
