MIDTOWN, Manhattan (WABC) -- A broken rail in the East River tunnel caused major commuter headaches Wednesday morning.

The Long Island Rail Road canceled some westbound trains in Jamaica, or diverted them to Hunterspoint Avenue or Atlantic Terminal. Around 9 a.m., there were 10 minutes delays into and out of Penn due to congestion caused by the broken rail.

New York City Transit lines were cross-honoring LIRR fares via the 7 subway at Hunter's Point, and the 2/3 subways at Atlantic Terminal, as well as the E subway at Jamaica.

New Jersey Transit trains on the Northeast Corridor, North Jersey Coast Line, Raritan Valley Line and MidTown Direct lines were subject to 30-minute delays in and out of Penn Station in New York.

There were some cancellations during the morning rush.
