BENSONHURST (WABC) -- Two NYPD officers came to the rescue of a baby boy who had stopped breathing in Brooklyn Sunday night.

At about 11:15 p.m., Sergeant Michael Dario and his operator, Police Officer Elias Khan, were on routine patrol when they responded to a 911 call of an aided child having difficulty breathing at 2059 74th Avenue in Bensonhurst.

They were met by a 32-year old woman who said her two-week-old infant son was not breathing.

Both officers found the baby unresponsive, with his face turning blue.

Khan immediately began to render aid, first by conducting a finger sweep of the infant's mouth to make sure there were no foreign objects in the airway, and then turning the baby over, face down and on an angle, administering multiple back thrusts, according to police.

At the same time, Sergeant Dario requested EMS personnel rush to the scene.

Within 10 to 15 seconds, police say the baby began to breathe on his own, becoming responsive and crying. EMS responded and removed the child to Maimonides Hospital, where he was listed in stable condition.
