GREENWICH VILLAGE, Manhattan (WABC) -- Two men are in critical but stable condition after being stabbed by a homeless man with scissors in Greenwich Village Monday night, according to police.

Authorities say the suspect, identified 50-year-old Douglas Gaston, first harassed a 15-year-old boy with the scissors before stabbing two men on West 14th Street just after 9 p.m. It is possible that Gaston may have been talking to the victims before the stabbing.

One victim was a 42-year-old Bronx man who was stabbed in the chest, while the second was a 32-year-old homeless man who suffered a laceration to his right armpit.

Both victims were taken to Bellevue Hospital.

After a brief foot pursuit, Gaston was arrested nearby.

He is charged with assault, reckless endangerment, criminal possession of a weapon and menacing.

Gaston has nine prior arrests.
