NEW YORK -- Bronx District Attorney Robert Johnson says 23 people have been indicted in a crackdown on violent gangs dealing in guns and drugs.

Johnson said Thursday that the gangs - which are affiliated with the Bloods - have especially targeted the Castle Hill and Co-Op City areas.

Law enforcers say some of the gang members regularly traveled to Maryland to commit crimes.

The most serious charges include attempted murder, conspiracy to commit murder, and enterprise corruption.

Investigators started using wiretaps in May 2014.

The gangs are called the Untouchable Gorilla Stone Nation and the Black Stone Gorilla Gangstas.
