CHELSEA, Manhattan (WABC) -- Three suspects are under arrest after a man was shot six times in Manhattan early Sunday.

At about 1 a.m., police were sitting in an unmarked vehicle on 22nd Street between 6th and 7th Avenues in Chelsea.

They heard gunshots and saw a man get into a waiting Mercedes that sped off.

Police pursued the car to 19th Street, where there was a minor fender-bender with the suspect's vehicle.

All three men inside were arrested. Police say it appears the shooting was not random.

"We're exploring a possible connection between the victim and the perpetrators," said NYPD Captain Steven Spataro.

The victim is described as a man in his early 40's. He is expected to survive.

A gun was recovered on the floor in the back seat of the car.

Police say the victim and the suspects are known to law enforcement and have criminal histories.
