BROOKLYN, N.Y. (WABC) -- The death of a 61-year-old man in a fire in Brooklyn in October has been ruled a homicide

Police responded around 3 a.m. Oct. 2 to the blaze in the 700 clock of 740 Herkimer Street in Bedford-Stuyvesant. When the fire was put out, emergency personnel found Steve Dodson unresponsive inside the apartment. He was taken to Interfaith Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The medical examiner determined the cause of death to be smoke inhalation and thermal injury. At the time, investigators were looking into whether an accelerant was used.

Authorities said Dodson was a smoker.

No arrests have been made.
