Stepfather of 2-year-old girl arrested in connection with her death in November

BROOKLYN, N.Y. (WABC) -- The stepfather of a 2-year-old girl was arrested in connection with her death in Brooklyn in November.

According to the New York City Police Department, the charges against David Adams, 25, of Queens, in the death of Thaiya Spruill-Smith have been upgraded to murder. He was first charged with reckless assault of a child, endangering the welfare of a child and assault in the first degree.

He will be arraigned Thursday.

The cause of death is abusive head trauma.

He was released on $200,000 bail on the assault charge and is due back in court April 17.
