Newark street shooting leaves 1 man dead, prosecutors said

NEWARK, N.J. -- Authorities say a man shot on a Newark street has died from his wounds.

But a motive for the slaying remains under investigation.

Essex County prosecutors said the man was shot around 4:35 a.m. Thursday in the 100 block of Court Street. He was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead a short time later.

The man's name has not been released. No other injuries were reported in the incident.

Authorities declined to provide further details on the shooting, including what type of weapon was used and how many shooters may have been involved.

No arrests have been made.
