BEDFORD-STUYVESANT (WABC) -- A New York City public school teacher was arrested for allegedly sexually assaulting a teenager and offering to pay the teen to have sex with other adults.

Police say 37-year-old Waris Grant, a teacher at PS 256 in Bedford-Stuyvesant, Brooklyn, is accused of inappropriate sexual relationship with a 16-year-old boy who is not a student at the school.

The Department of Education says Grant has been removed from the classroom.

"While the allegations against Mr. Grant are not school-related, they are deeply disturbing," the Department of Education said in a statement. "DOE took swift action to immediately remove him from the classroom, and he will remain away from students."

Grant was arraigned Friday. He is charged with two counts each of criminal sex act and sexual misconduct, as well as endangering the welfare of a child.
