Piscataway 911 dispatcher, police officers help save non-breathing baby

PISCATAWAY TOWNSHIP (WABC) -- Two police officers and a 911 dispatcher are being credited for helping save the life of a 3-month-old baby.

On Thursday afternoon, Piscataway Township police received a call reporting an infant who was not breathing. Patrol officer Michael Rountree and traffic officer Raymond Pilch responded to the scene, as 911 dispatcher Cara Brandenburg provided CPR instructions to the caller.

When officers arrived, the baby was unconscious and still not breathing.

The two worked together to administer CPR, and the baby began to breathe on his own.

The baby was later transported to St. Peter's University Hospital in New Brunswick for treatment.

"I am proud to commend Dispatcher Brandenburg and Officers Pilch and Rountree for their quick actions that made a difference," police chief Richard Ivone said. "Each year, Piscataway police respond to over 30,000 calls and they hope to make a difference. Maybe they take someone dangerous off the street. Maybe they'll save someone's life. When children are involved, though, the job can be more challenging, but rewarding."
