Woman charged with DWI, driving wrong way in Nassau County

WANTAGH, N.Y. (WABC) -- A woman has been charged with DWI and driving the wrong way in Nassau County after an incident Thursday.

Police said Claudine Castro of Lindenhurst was driving drunk the wrong way into on-coming traffic on the Seaford-Oyster Bay Expressway in Wantagh.

Around 4 a.m. Thursday, Nassau Police said they responded to reports of a blue Volkswagen Jetta driving northbound in the southbound lanes of Route 135 near exit 5. Police found Claudine Castro, 44, of Lindenhurst, behind the wheel and arrested her. There were no accidents or injuries reported.

Castro faces several charges including second-degree reckless endangerment, reckless driving, aggravated driving while intoxicated, driving while intoxicated and driving the wrong way.

Castro was arraigned on more than half a dozen charges.
