1 person critically injured in house fire in Dix Hills, Long Island

DIX HILLS (WABC) -- An investigation is underway after flames tore through a home in Suffolk County, leaving one person badly hurt.

The fire broke out about 11:30 Saturday night on Kenmore Street in Dix Hills.

Firefighters rescued one person who is now in critical condition at the hospital.

The man was located just outside the bedroom, and was pulled to safety through the front door of the one-story home.

He was in cardiac arrest and was revived by the Dix Hills Rescue Squad, and taken to Good Samaritan Hospital.

One Dix Hills firefighter suffered a hand laceration battling the blaze and was transported to Huntington Hospital.

Another firefighter was treated at the scene for smoke inhalation.

A pet dog and cat died in the fire.

About 70 firefighters were on the scene with nine trucks and had the fire under control within 40 minutes.

There is no word yet on the cause of the fire.
