Police investigating double murder in Newark

NEWARK (WABC) -- Police are searching for suspects after a shooting in Newark's West Ward Sunday night that left two men dead.

The victims were shot on 18th Avenue just before 9 p.m. and pronounced dead at the scene.

The victims have been identified as Jean Coutac, age 29, of Union and Luther Thompson, Jr., age 18, of Newark, according to the Essex County Prosecutor's Office.

A third person was being treated at the hospital for an unknown injury.

The suspects may have fled in a vehicle. No arrests have been made.

It was the city's 21st and 22nd homicides of the year.
