Federal agents fire shots at suspects in East New York

EAST NEW YORK (WABC) -- Federal agents fired shots at suspects during a Homeland Security investigation in Brooklyn Tuesday.

The agents were involved in an undercover heroin deal at New Lots Avenue and Bradford Street, in front of a Shop Rite supermarket in the East New York section.

Authorities say a suspect drove his car toward an undercover federal Homeland Security agent, involved in a buy and bust.

Agents then fired multiple shots at the vehicle, but the suspect was not injured.

The drug suspect and two accomplices were taken into custody. Two kilos of heroin were recovered.

The incident is now under investigation.

In a statement, Immigration and Customs Enforcement spokesman Lou Martinez said "ICE Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) special agents attempted to make an arrest in Brooklyn, New York, today when the suspect accelerated his vehicle in the direction of one of the agents. As a result, the special agent discharged his firearm, striking the engine of the suspect's vehicle. No one was injured during the incident. Any time an ICE officer or special agent discharges their firearm in the line of duty, the ICE Office of Professional Responsibility reviews the matter. Due to this ongoing review, no further details will be released at this time."
